Eleven chapter members gathered virtually on Saturday, Feb 3, for an informal meeting led by program co-chairs Lisa Sorenson and Elizabeth Bartmess. The time started with each attendee giving a brief personal and/or indexing update, a tradition that is becoming increasingly meaningful.
Next, attendees posed indexing-related questions and shared resources. We discussed how to index endnotes that are not numbered, an approach being adopted by some trade publishers. This led to an interesting discussion of endnotes.
Another question was about the new software being developed by Elizabeth Bartmess for embedding XML entries into text files from Cindex. She is currently testing it with Cindex on Mac and plans to release it later this year for Mac and Windows and eventually extend it to Sky. The software works similarly to Dave Ream’s IXMLembedder program.
